Mary O'Loughlin
Mary holds an Honours Degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy from Middlesex University. She also has an Advanced Certificate in CBT and specialises in couples counselling having extensive experience in this area.  She has been tutoring in  PCI college  since 2006 and has specialist training in areas of sexuality and family therapy.  Mary is also counsellor and supervisor with Accord and the Rape Crisis Centre.

About the Programme
This 30 hour programme consists of five one-day workshops, each of 6 hours duration. This certificate course is designed to equip helping professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to incorporate Couples Counselling into their practice in a client-centred, integrative way. You will learn to observe, assess, evaluate, and formulate treatment using the couples environmental influencers as well as their thoughts, moods and emotions, and behaviour.  The approaches presented are usable, up-to-date and strongly evidence-based.

Additional Course Requirements (Before Integration Day)
Record of 15 hours supervised client work in the area of Couples Counselling.
Record of 3 sessions with a supervisor.

Entry Requirements

Qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy or other helping professionals. Students currently in training will be considered, on the understanding that the Certificate qualification cannot be used until they have qualified.

Participants who do not meet entry requirements will be withdrawn from the course. Please ensure than one of the following two statements are true before enrolling:

  • I have a professional qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, or similar. 
  • I am a student of counselling and psychotherapy (or similar) and I understand that I may not use the Certificate qualification until I have qualified.

The Process

As well as completing Day 5, the Integration Day, participants will be required to provide evidence of completion of 15 hours supervised relevant client work and submit a 2,500 word essay on a topic relating to Couples Counselling. 

The Integration Day will solidify learning and provide an opportunity for case discussion and supervision.  Students who complete the clinical work will be awarded a PCI College Professional Certificate in Couples Counselling.

The Certificate Course is €780 (Including Day 5 Integration Day).  Fees are non-refundable in all personal circumstances. All courses run subject to demand and the formation of a viable class cohort. A full refund will begiven to all applicants in the event that the class does not proceed.
